An interdisciplinary workshop on 18th June 2018 at the University of Glasgow brings together views, perspectives, and insights from international policy makers and academics on effective learning and training for inclusive and sustainable socio- economic development of marginalised populations globally. According to the recent Human Development Report (2016) by UNDP average human development has improved globally; yet marginalized sections continue to suffer basic forms of deprivation.

Unemployment and deepening socio-economic inequalities are two of the most fundamental forms of such deprivation. Learning and training can provide efficacious strategies for addressing and mitigating the problems of inequality as underscored by many policymakers and academics. Yet, to confine learning and training to narrow economist goals without conferring broader sustainable and inclusive dimensions to them would strongly undermine the potential benefits. By drawing together a range of experts from both the global south and the north, this workshop provides an opportunity for knowledge exchange on how to foster well-being of marginalised groups through training and learning and contribute to 2030 education and sustainability targets.
