We are delighted to announce that Dr Samir Halliru, lecturer in Adult Education and Community Development at Bayero University, Kano, has been successful in obtaining a post-doctoral fellowship for one year from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in Nigeria. He will be spending that year within CR&DALL at the University of Glasgow.

His research project is entitled "Exploring the narratives of young adults’ mental health and wellbeing challenge at higher education and the need for social change in Nigeria”, and focuses on a critical examination of mental health and wellbeing challenges among young adults in HE.

It will look at the causes of mental health, and well-being challenges, feelings, thoughts and effects amongst young adults in HE. It will consider the mechanisms to change policy directions for the protection, prevention and rehabilitation of young adults affected by mental health and wellbeing challenges. 

This research on mental health and wellbeing challenges will be relevant for HEIs in Nigeria and beyond because of the pressing concern about its prevalence and implications across the globe.

We are particularly proud of Samir’s success in obtaining this scholarship since he undertook both a MSc and PhD in Adult Education here.
