Our 2019 annual RWF residential weekend will examine the contemporary status of adult education, through the lens of the Ministry of Reconstruction’s seminal 1919 Report on Adult Education.
We will explore emerging alternatives to the educational status quo, which has seen the mass destruction of radical and emancipatory adult education structures and approaches, such as co-operative education and social and political education.
The weekend will feature speakers from different parts of the world of radical adult education past and present - including those with expertise in the history of radical adult education, those involved with contemporary political education initiatives, co-operative and cultural education.
This RWF residential event is running in parallel with work which commenced in 2018 to establish a Commission on Adult Education (Adult Education 100) - led by a steering group comprising the RWF, the University of Nottingham, the WEA, Kellogg College, Oxford and the Co-operative College.
The weekend will also provide a chance to hear from some of those involved in this project and discuss its emerging findings and inform its forward-looking agenda.
