Summary biography:
Courses taught by Dr. Clover include a focus on community leadership: voluntary and non-governmental organizations, the workplace, and community schools.
In 2002 and 2005, Darlene was the Co-Investigator on two SSHRC-funded studies on the impact of new technologies on community learning, development, and health in coastal Newfoundland. In 2004 she received a grant from SSHRC (Principal Investigator) to undertake an Canada-New Zealand comparative study on women's community arts-based adult education practices. In 2006 and 2007, Darlene received two grants from the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL): the first was for a study of contemporary arts-based adult education practices in institutions and communities across Canada; the second explored the impact of arts-engaged learning on street-involved/homeless women in Victoria. The knowledge mobilization activities (arts exhibitions) of this latter project were highlighted in various local and municipal publications.
Dr. Clover also participated in a Canadian-Indian comparative research project with co-worker Dr. Catherine McGregor examining the differences between Canadian and Indian politics. It explores how non-formal education may be an important tool in supporting women as they engage in politics.
